Stuart is committed to devising smart and surprising television, books and media.
After a meandering but rewarding education, Stuart knew a little about broadcast journalism and theatre, and rather more about teaching. While studying Primary Education, he focused on children’s literature and the potential lessons it held for refining children’s television.
He worked in arts marketing and administration in Sydney and London, before taking up a marketing and design post with children’s publisher Scholastic. There his knack for persuasive writing and clean design continued to grow. Responsible for direct communication to thousands of teachers, he collaborated with the editors and writers who created educational resources.
In 2002, Stuart established Book Design Australia, to provide layout, printing and advice to large trade, education and self-publishers. The business continues today, and is recognized for bright, elegant design, especially for young readers. His teaching knowledge helps him understand the readership and avoid any psychedelic excesses! His clients compliment his warm, unassuming manner and attention to detail.
Generous recommendations led Stuart back to his love of television for young people in 2007. Since then, he’s worked hard to invent a distinctive list of series concepts, which he continues to shape and promote for Flying Workshop’s collaborators and clients.
Stuart has also pursued his own publishing and writing projects. These have embraced subjects as diverse as creativity, ethical living, travel, education, the media and the arts.
Stuart is passionate about storytelling, and his humour, sparky intelligence and imagination inform his contribution to each project.
